Question

Which of the following statements is correct? Please select all the apply. Square Coatomer-coated II vesicles bud from endoplasmic reticulum and eventually fuse with the Golgi network. Square Active ADP ribosylation factor (ARF-GTP) binds to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and recruits coatomer proteins to the site of vesicle formation. Square With reference to coated vesicles. COP refers to clathrin coated vesicles. Square The G protein, guanine nucleotide exchange factor mediates the formation of endoplasmic reticulum-derived COP vesicles.

Explanation / Answer

Coatomer is a protein complex that coats membrane bound transport vesicles.

COP is coat protein complex.

There are 3 types of coatomer:

1) COPI

Vesicles shuttle within the golgi and from the golgi back to the ER. The name COPI refers to the specific COat Protein complex that initiates the budding process on the cis-golgi membrane.

2) COPII

Export proteins from the ER to their target.

3) Clathrin and its associated adaptins.

Clathrin coated vesicles provide the late secretory pathway and the endocytic pathway at the plasma membrane of cells.

ADP-ribosylation factors were found on peroxisomes.

G protein guanine nucleotide exchange factor are proteins that activate monomeric GTPases by stimulating the release of GDP to allow binding of GTP. They involved in the activation of GTPases and these GTPases are involved in the process of vesicle trafficking.

Vesicle formation is regulated by GTP binding proteins and activated by a GTPases that is stimulated by guanine nucleotide exchange factor.

Correct statements:

Active ADP ribosylation factor binds to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and recruits coatomer proteins to the site of vesicle formation.

G protein guanine nucleotide exchange factor mediates the formation of endoplasmic reticulum-derived COP vesicles.
