Cell Biology. Please Help.
^1 How do intracellular receptors receive signals from the extracellular environment; what are the two benefits to utilizing intracellular receptors in direct comparison with that of extracellular receptors?^2 How can negative feedback signaling activities serve to alter the differential responses of a specific combination of extracellular signaling molecules/cues; how does the cell effectively use concentration to control homeostatic responses when receiving multiple signaling molecules (i.e. receiving signal A and B and C, but not D).Explanation / Answer
13) intracellular receptors receives the signal from the extracellular environment in the form of second messengers like inositol triphosphate. the 2 benefits of intracellular receptors are gene regulation and cell proliferation.
14) Negative feedback signalling from the intracellular response is mostly transcription and translation products which will act either directly at the cytosolic domain of the extracellular/transmembrane receptors and change their conformation and thereby inactivates and stops the extracellular signal to traverse into cytosol creating second messengers for the intracellular signal pathway.
sometimes the signal molecule (say D) will result in the synthesis of the same signal molecule in excess. when the concentration within in the cell is attained, the newly synthesised signal molecule will affect and stops the extracellular signal molecule to interact with the receptor, while still receiving the other signals A, B and C.
