Question

When describing transmission lines, we made use of phasor quantities of the form V~ (z) to represent sinusoidal time functions. Now, in describing electromagnetic fields propagating through unbounded media, we use phasor quantities of the form E~(x,y,z) to represent sinusoidal time functions. Explain what's happening here and why we're justified in using such complex quantities to represent real time functions. Is there any restriction on the sorts of systems for which this representation is justified?

Explanation / Answer

the reason we use phasors is it converts 2D analysis of sine wave into 1- D analysis......it is justfied because we are mapping 2D points into 1D with taking into account of time variations
