Give an answer with explanation

Question 15 - 22. Questions 15 through 22 refer to the figures above. Each question gives the proper figure to use with that question. In Fig. 1, the voltage V is 27 volts 9 volts 6 volts 3 volts In Fig. 1, the current in the 6-ohm resistor is 3 amperes 2 amperes 1.5 amperes 1 ampere In Fig. 2, each lamp is to take 1-ampere at 20 volts. The resistor should be 100 ohms 80 ohms 59 ohms 40 ohms In Fig. 3, the MAXIMUM voltage which can be placed across the condenser by varying the potentiometer is 120 volts 60 volts 40 volts 20 volts In Fig. 3, the MINIMUM voltage which can be placed across the condenser by varying the potentiometer is 60 volts 40 volts 20 volts zero volts

Explanation / Answer

15> The 3 ohm reisitor is in parallel with 6 ohm resistor which is in series with the 5 ohm resistor hence calculate Equivalent resisitance: 6*3/(6+3)+5=7ohms

Current flowing is 3 amps hence voltage is 21V the drop accros 5 ohms will be 3*5=15 ohms hence V=21-15=6V(Ans C)

16> Current in the 6 ohms IA*3=Ib*6 since Potential drop is equal and Ia+Ib=3 therefore 1 ampere (Ans D)

17> Each lam takes 1A hence 2 A total current with a potential drop of 20V hence V across reisitor= 100

100/1=100 (Ans A)

18> Current= 120/60 = 2A the max would be when the potentiometer is at 10 ohms:

therefore R=10ohms 10*2=20V (Ans D)

19> since there can be no potential difference in one node. therefore when its connected to the same node that is 0ohms it will be zero Volts (Ans D)
