Question
Write a detailed technical account of how a generator works. Your report should explain the
physics behind how an electric generator works. Your textbook only has a skeletal outline.
Flesh out all the details. If you think you can’t draw nice ï¬gures, then I have no objection to
your ï¬nding the ï¬gures that you need online. This is an open-ended assignment and is the sort
of technical report that you will have to produce when you are a practicing scientist. Imagine
your reader to be someone with the same level of technical literacy as you have. Now write
a beautiful and concise report that clearly explains to this person what a generator is, the
underlying physics, and how the device works. Remember, a long report is not necessarily a
good report, so don’t equate length with quality. Precision and clarity are what are important.
Explanation / Answer
A generator is basically a device that converts mechanical energy obtained from outside source to electrical energy.!!!
See the mechanism of generator is like that,it takes mechanical energy from outside and uses it to move the electric charges and the moving electric charges produce the electric current that it supplies to the output.!!
Nowadays generator works on faradays law as we now that is we pass current to any wire then magnetic field is induced in it which produces flux.!!
So in this case the movement create a voltage difference between two ends which cause electric charge to flow and generate electric current..!!
It's main parts are:
1.Engine:It is source of input mechanical power that means it supplies mechanical power to generator.!!
2.Alternator:It generates electrical output from mechanical input.!!
3.Fuel tank:Used to store fuel to run the engine
4.Voltage regulator
5.Cooling system:To act as lubricant to cool it when temperature become too high
These are all main parts..!!
Hope This helps you but if you have any doubt then please comment..!!
Plz.. do rate with 5 star ratings..!!!
Good Luck..!!
