1.The controlled variable in a closed-loop system is the direction of a robot arm. Initially, it is at 50o; then it is commanded to go to 25o. What is the error when the arm position is at 15o?

2.A motor was measured to rotate (unloaded) at 500 rpm, with a 6-V input and 1000 rpm, with a 12-V input. What is the transfer function (steady state) for the unloaded motor in rpm/V?

3.In a certain system, an electrical heating element was found to increase the temperature of a piece of metal 7o for each amp of current. The metal expands 0.004 in./deg and pushes on a load sensor that outputs 1 V/0.003 in. of compression. What is the overall transfer function in V/amp.

4.Find the gain in decibels of an amplifier that has a straight gain of 7000?

5.Find the current in a ground loop that is 200 m long, has a wire resistance of 0.06 ohms/m, and has a difference of 4 V between grounds?

Explanation / Answer

1) error = expected value - observed value = 15 - 25 = - 10 degree

2) transfer function = 500 / 6 = 83.33 rpm /V

3) transfer function in V / amp = 7 degree / amp * 0.004 in / degree * 1 V / 0.003 in = 9.33 V /amp

4) gain in decibels = 10 * log 7000 = 38.45 dB

5) resistance = 200 * 0.06 = 12 ohm V = 4V

so current = 4/12 = 0.33 A
