Question

/engineering-mechanics-dynamics-11th-problem-9-869561.aspx Why is there static equilibrium in the y-direction in this problem? Shouldn't there be a normal component of acceleration that points from G to A? Wouldn't the fist hitting the bag cause point G to circle around A? That to me suggests there is a normal component of acceleration and a tangential component of acceleration. Why is it that in the solution they solved it so that there is static equilibrium in the vertical direction? Is it because the punching bag is initially at rest?
