Question
I'm not sure how to find the work. The problem states that thepiston is loaded so that the volume change is linear so I cannotfigure out which equation to use. It isn't a constant volumeprocess so I can't use w=pdV and it isn't polyatropic or ideal gasso I can't use any of the specific work equations from chapter8.A piston/cylinder set up contains 1kg of water at 150kpa, 20C. Thepiston is loaded so that the pressure is linear in volume. Heat isadded from a 600C source until the water is at 1000kpa and 500C.Find the heat transfer and total change in entropy.
Explanation / Answer
But I think you have an expression for P in terms of V (yousaid it is linear). P takes the form P = a*V + b, where and b areconstants.
Thus, integrate P*dV = integrate { aV*dV + b*dV} = aV^2/2 + bV
<= evaluate integral from V1 to V2.
