Question

The answers to the first 2 questions are given, but I am confused on the 3rd. Please explain the reasoning because I keep getting the wrong answer.

One of the traits that Gregor Mendel studied in pea plants is plant height. He crossed homozygous tall plants to homozygous recessive plants and the F1 progeny were all tall. The F1 progeny were then self-fertilized. What would be the expected PHENOTYPIC ratio for the F2 generation?

ANSWER: 3:1

What would be the expected GENOTYPIC ratio for the F2 generation?

ANSWER: 1:2:1

If you were to randomly pick a tall plant in the F2 generation, what is the probability that the plant is a heterozygote?

ANSWER: Please explain answer, I am confused!

Explanation / Answer

The expected GENOTYPIC ratio for the F2 generation is 1:2:1. It means probability of getting a homozygote tall plant (AA) : heterozygote tall plant (Aa:aA) and homozygote dwarg plant (aa)= 1:2:1. so probability of getting a heterozygote tall plant is 50% . Probability of getting a homozygote tall plant (AA) 25% and homozygote dwarg plant (aa) 25%.
