Question

Steam flows at a steady state through a converging nozzle that was insulated from the surroundings. The inlet diameter of the nozzle was 5cm and the length of the nozzle was 25cm. At the nozzle entrance, the temperature was measured as 325oC and the pressure was 700kPa. The velocity of the steam was 300m/s. (State 1)

At the nozzle exit, the steam pressure ant temperature was measured as 240oC and 350 kPa. (State 2)

(a) Estimate the nozzle exit velocity.
(b) Estimate the nozzle exit diameter,

Data for steam:

H1= 3112 kJ/kg
V1= 388.61 cm3/gm

H2 = 2945.7 kJ/kg
V2 = 667.75 cm3/gm

Explanation / Answer

The methodology in the above answer is correct, however the velocity is 30 not 300.
