Question

Can you help me understand how the answer is -12000?

The equation I am using is:

Emax = Vbi / 2*W

We are given the width of the SCR is 1E-6 m

Also I know you can find the Vo = Vbi by taking the difference of: EC(n-side) - Ec(p-side)

so Vo = [ Ec(n) - Ec(p) ] = 6*.2ev = -1.2

but I am not getting -12000? what am I doing wrong here?

This is a P-N junction so the P is on the left side, N is on the right., SCR is the middle where there is a slope.Also its hard to see but the Dotted line is E-Fermi the middle line is Eintrinsic.

Thanks

The total electric filed in Figure C is = (V/cm)-1.2 b) -120-12000 d) 120 e) 12000 For Figures A-C: scale= 0.2eV/(major div), Egap=l.0e V. nilxlQ10/cm3 positive voltage is referenced left-to-right SCR=space charge regi SCR=lum For Probs. 15-23

Explanation / Answer

Recheck your calculations again BUT this time change convert n such that it is in micrometers cubed. Your SCR is in micrometers while your n is centimeters cubed and probably why there is a varying magnitude in your answer.
