Can I get step by step directions please?!?

A closed end manometer (as shown in (he figure below) is used to measure the pressure in a water pipe. The main operating fluid in the manometer is mercury capped with carbon tetrachloride. Unfortunately, however, mixing in the manometer occurred due to a loss of pressurization in the water main, resulting in water in the closed arm and making the existing calibration inaccurate. A schematic of the resulting manometer is shown below. Determine the current operating pressure in the water pipe. Report your answer in both psia and psig.

Explanation / Answer

Equating pressures in both columns at the height just below the carbon tetra chloride column==>
P + (14+12+120) * 1 + 10 * 1.59 = 12*1 + (120+10)*5.43
==> P = 556 gm/cm2 = 556*0.0142233 psi = 7.91 psi

So, Ans = 7.91 psia and (14.7+7.91)=22.61 psig
