I'm having trouble understanding how to read these diagrams. Here was a question that I got wrong, I need someone to explain how to find the answer, and explain the diagram as well. Thanks.


-Determine whether or not each of the following are good candidates for age hardening based on the diagram. Please Explain.

A) Al-0.4% Cu

B) Al-4.0% Cu

C) Al-20% Cu

D) Al-60% Cu

Well, there you have a diagram Al-Cu. So, They gave you some Concentrations of Cu on Al


On the left side you have 100% concentration of aluminum, while the far right you have the 100% copper concentration.


In the first case you have 0.4% copper, then draws an isopleth (line at 0.4% Cu, ie, 0.4 from left to right, then you should watch what temperature start growing your particles, ie, to solificarse. in the case of Al-0.4% Do you observe that solidification.


On the other hand, have the concentration Al-4% Cu, when you draw the isopleth and a line perpendicular to this, it appears that the solidification temperature is at 548C. The solution annealing in the range 495-505C, therefore, when the material is cooled, can be formed.


This can also be observed in 20% of copper, but when 60% isopleth copper trace, the temperature is greater than the range.
