Question
In the circuit below, all four resistors are identical (R1 R2 R3 R4R nd the battery has a voltage of 5.18v R2 16, 2g S Ry R4 (a) When the switch is placed in position 1, the measured current in the battery is 1.38 mA. What is the value of each resistor? 18768kn 55 2 b) When the switch is placed in position 2, what is the current flowing out of the battery? What is the equivalent resistance when the switch in position 2? MA c) When the switch is open (neither in position 1 or position 2), what is the current flowing out of the battery? 1251 What is the equivalent resistance when the switch is open? mAExplanation / Answer
Pleas do not forget to rate this answer.............It would be great....Let me know if you have any doubt
b) When the switch is in position 2, R3 and R4 are in parallel
so, their effective resistance is
1/R' = 1/R + 1/R
R' = R/2
This is in series with R1 and R2, so, overall resistance is
Requ = R + R + R/2
Requ = 5R/2
Put value of R which you found in part (a)
Requ = 5*1.8768 / 2 = 4.692 kohm
so, I = 5.18 / 4.692e3
I = 1.104 mA
_______________________________________________________________________________
c) when switch is open, R1, R2, R4 are in series
so, R(total) = 3R = 3*1.8768 = 5.6304 kohm
so, I = 5.18 / 5.6304
I = 0.92 mA
