Question

A piece of wire of length 20.0m is tied horizontally between two posts. The tension in the wire is determined to be 300N. The mass of the wire i 1. s 0.500kg a) determine the fundamental frequency of standing waves set up on this b) determine the position of the 31d node from the left end position for the wire standing wave associated with the 8th harmonic frequency 2. Two waves identical in speed, frequency amplitude and wavelength, but differing in phase by +/3 radians interfere in a region in space, where x is in cm and t is in s·The waves are described by the functions below. yl 30.0cm sin(20.0x- 30.0t) y2-30.0cm sin (20.0x-30.0t + /3) a) b) write the wavefunction that these interfering waves produce what is the displacement of a media particle in this interference region when x- 10.0cm at a time of 3.00s?

Explanation / Answer

As per chegg guide lines I am wor king first problem, please post remaining question in the next post

formula for fundamental frequency is

f= 1/ 2L * sqrt T/ m/L

= 1/2 (20) * sqrt 300/0.5/20 m

= 2.73 Hz

(b)

for eight harmonic frequency

f8= 8 f= 8 ( 2.73) = 21.9 m

21.9 m= v/ lamda

lamda = v/21.9 m = sqrt 300/0.5/20 m/21.9 = 5.0 m

the position of third node from left end is 5.0 m
