Question

A 3.00-kg block is placed at the top of a track consisting of two frictionless quarter circles of radius R equal to 1.64 m connected by a 7.00-m-long, straight, horizontal surface (see the figure below). The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the horizontal surface is k equal to 0.100. The block is released from rest (Express your answer to three significant figures.) 6.00 m Submit You currently have 2 submissions for this question. Only 10 submission are allowed. Explanation / Answer

Given that,

m = 3 kg

intia speed, u = 0

as finally block stops, v = 0

Let block the block travell N times the flat section and slides upto height H.

From energ conservation,

mgR - umgL = mgH

H = R - uL

lf block stops on the flat section,

H = 0

R = N*u*L

N = 1.64 / 0.1*7 = 2.342

Distance travelled from left end before coming to rest,

d = 7 / 2.342

d = 2.98 m (from left end)
