Question

Explain the followings:

A- the relation between the varied charge Q and the measure potential difference V; keeping the capacitance constant for the parallel plate capacitor.

B- the relation between the varied capacitance C and the measure charge Q; keeping the potential difference constant for the parallel plate capacitor.

C- the relation between the varied potential difference V and the measure charge Q; keeping the capacitance constant for the parallel plate capacitor.

D- the relation between varied capacitance C and the measure potential difference V; keeping the charge Q constant for the parallel plate capacitor.

Explanation / Answer

A.

Q = CV

if C is kept constant, V will vary directly with varied charge Q. As we keep on charging a conductor or a capacitor, it's potetential goes on increasing.

B.

if V is kept constant, Q varies directly with the capacitance. As the capacitance of the capacitor is increased, then to maintain same potential, more charge has to be given.

C.

If C is constant, then Q vareis directly with V. More potential must be due to more charge for constant capacitance.

D.

If Q is constant, V varies inversely with C. As the capacitance of the capacitor is increased keeping the charge same, it's potential will decrease.
