During the first part, she rides for 18.3 minutes at an average speed of 7.07 m/s. During the second part, she rides for 27.0 minutes at an average speed of 3.42 m/s. Finally, during the third part, she rides for 11.2 minutes at an average speed of 10.9 m/s. (a) How far has the bicyclist traveled during the entire trip? (b) What is the average speed of the bicyclist for the trip? (a) Number Units (b) Number Units the tolerance is + /-5% No units SHOW HINT m/s m/s 2 Cm/s 2 LINK TO TEXT LINK TO TEXT

Explanation / Answer

a)

v1 = 7.07 m/s ; t1 = 18.3 min =1098 s
x1 = v1t1 = 7762.86 m

similarly,
x2 = 5540.4m ; x3 = 7324.8 m

x = x1 + x2 + x3 = 20628m

b)

Vavg = dist / time = 20628/60(18.3 + 27+11.2) = 6.08 m/s
