Question
A Motorcycle Catches a Car stants How long does it tak Express the time n View Available Hi A motorcycle is following a car that is traveling at constant speed on a straight highway Initially, the car and the motorcycle are both traveling at the same speed of 185 m/s, and the distance between them is 56.0 m After t -200 s, the motorcycle starts to accelerate at a rate of 4.00 m/s The motorcycle catches up with the car at some time t2 Figure 1 of 1 Submit car 0 car Part c A time timeE How far does the motorcys to use an answer from a pa Answer numerically in m View Available Hint(s) Type here to search
Explanation / Answer
(B)
Hello, this could be done by relativity principle. Let us stop the car by applying reverse velocity and so the cycle too stops.
Now cycle gets accelerated with a = 4m/s^2
The distance to be covered is 56 m
So time taken would be got right from
S = ut + 1/2 a t^2
Here u=0,
So 56 = 1/2 * 4 * t^2
OR 2t^2 = 56
t^2= 28
t = 28 = 5.3 sec.
So T2 - T1 = 5.3 s
Next question:
(C)
Already they have a separation of 56 m
Now after 5.3 s car would have travelled a further distance 18.5*5.3 = 98.05 m
So motor cycle has to travel 56+98 = 154m
In three significant figures the distance is 154 m
Hope this helps you.
