NameAane Res Chapter 12 Density and Hooke's Law PHYS 1375 1. A metal ball has a mass of 2kg and a volume of 6m. What is its density? (d - m/v) 2. Water has a density of I g'ml What is the mass of the water if it fills a 10 ml container?(d- m/v) 3. A certain gas expands to fill a 3 L container. Its mass is measured to be 0.6 kg. What is its density? (d-m/v) 6 h 4solidis S emall 3 em wide and 2 cm thick.It has a mass of 1.29 N. What is its Weight density? (Wd-FV)(V=LXHXW) 5. What is the volume of a marble that has a mass of3 g and d density of 2.7 g/ml? 6. A gradusted cylinder is filled to an initial volume of 12.7 ml. A rock is dropped into the graduated cylinder. The final volume of the graduated cylinder is 18.2 ml. What is the rock's volume in both ml and cm? (not looking for Density-just volume) 7. Gabby puts a 5.8 kg weight on a spring and it stretches 1.4 m. What is the spring constant of the spring? (Remember kg is not a force it is a mass) (F -Kx)Explanation / Answer
1)
Density = m/V = 2/6 = 0.333 kg/m^3
2)
Mass, m = density x volume = 1 x 10 = 10 g
3)
Volume, V = 3 L = 0.003 m^3
Mass, m = 0.6 kg
Density = 0.6/0.003 = 200 kg/m^3
4)
Volume V = 0.05 x 0.03 x 0.02 = 3 x 10^-5 m^3
Mass m = 1.29 kg
Density = 1.29/(3 x 10^-5) = 43000 kg/m^3
