Question
a) Define the terminologies and the possible failure condition of under-reinforced beam, over- reinforced beam and balanced beam b) List the five assumptions followed in the beam design for flexural strength as per AS3600 c) Why corner reinforcement is important in slabs? Under which condition, crack control reinforcement is applied to the whole section? d) Why there exists an absolute maximum shear strength provision? e) A simply supported beam is subjected to "two point" loads. Draw neat sketch and write short notes on the various possible shear crack patterns.Explanation / Answer
a) Ans: under reinforced beam= when the Neutral axis above the centroid of section then the beam is termed as under reinforced sction, here steel fails first
balnced section: when the neutral axis coincides with the centroid of section then the sectin is called as balnced section, here concrete fails prior to steel
Over reinforced section: when the neutral axis lies below te centroid of section then the section is called as over reinforced section, here concrete fails first
c) Ans: corner reinforcement is provided for the purpose to avoid uplift of corner due to torsion.
