Question
A reservoir has a surface area of 10,000 acres when full at water surface elevation 550- feet and 5,000 acres at elevation 500-feet. The area varies linearly in between these elevations. For a given month with 30 days, if the lake evaporation is 6-inches, the seepage loss is 5-cfs, and the average outflow is 300-cfs. What will be the water surface elevation at the end of the month? Average inflow is 125-cfs during the month. Starting water surface elevation at the beginning of the month is 540-feet. All flows and loss rates are constant during the month. Use inflow-outflow equation Inflow Outflow Loss Evap 125 cfs 300 cfs 5 cfs 4500 AF Area at start 9000 acres 15210.9 AF Change elev1.6901 Ft 538.3 Ft DS -O End elevExplanation / Answer
1. Area at the start is calculated as:-
Elevation of start point is 540 ft. So we have to calculate the area at elevation of 540 ft. By interpolation between 5000acre(500ft elevation.) And 10000acre (550ft. Elevation)
5000+[{(10000-5000)÷(550-500)}×(540-500)]
= 5000+(5000×40÷50)
= 9000 acre
2. Lake evaporation is calculated on the basis of altitude factor please have a look at this from your codes
