We are interested in detremining the genetic map of three different house finch traits: beak color (dark vs light), song length (short vs long) and patch size (reduced vs normal). We have done a large experiment involving the usual P0 crossed, with the F1 test crossed. The following are the data for the offspring from the test cross:

The fourth map would be the most accurate.

We are looking at different number of individuals with three characteristics. We can sum up the total individuals with two characteristics, to see how close they are for example: how many individuals are light and reduced, light and normal, dark and normal, normal and long, normal and short and so on. This way you can see which pair of characteristics has more individuals, these means that there is less probability of recombination and also less cM.

Check for the six highest sums and then compare what two characteristics are related, so you can get something like this (From highest ti lowest):

Normal and short: 662 (size-length)

Light and normal: 609 (shade-size)

Light and short: 589 (shade-length)

Reduced-Long: 570 (size-length)

Dark and reduced: 517 (shade-size)

Dark and long: 495: (shade-length).

There are more individuals with the same size and length followed by the individuals with the same shade and size.

Size and lenght is closest so it´s the lowest value: 5.67cM and shade and size would be 13.78.
