Question

An automobile battery has an emf of 12.60 V and an internal resistance of 0.084 0 ?. The headlights together have an equivalent resistance of 5.800 ? (assumed constant).

(a) What is the potential difference across the headlight bulbs when they are the only load on the battery? (Give your answer to four significant figures.)
............V

(b) What is the potential difference across the headlight bulbs when the starter motor is operated, requiring an additional 35.0 A from the battery? (Give your answer to four significant figures.)
.............V

Explanation / Answer

Sorry for the miss :) .I am same pavan answering.

Let the Voltage across the Headlights be Vo

which will be same across the Motor .

The current through the Headlights is Vo / 5.8 .

Taking KVL gives

12.60 V - (0.084)(35A + Vo /5.8 ) - Vo = 0

9.66 V = Vo ( 1.0145) gives Vo = 9.522 V

Answer : 9.522 V
