(b) the potential difference across theR= 285-?resistor
V

Explanation / Answer

a)let current in first loop be i1 ,in second loop i2 , in third loop i3. all in clockwise direction so appling KCL R=287.2ohm in 1st loop r*i1+40+80*[i1-i2]=0=>367.2i1-80i2+40=0 in 2nd loop 80[i2-i1]-40-360+20*[i2-i3]=0=>-80*i1+100*i2-20*i3=400 in 3rd loop 20*[i3-i2]+360+80+70*i3=0=>-20*i2+90*i3+440=0 on solving above three equations i1=0.71,i2=3.76,i3=-4.05 so current from R=287.2ohm is 0.71A from down to top so current from R=80ohm is 3.76-.71=3.05A from down to top so current from R=20ohm is -4.04-3.76= 7.8A from top to bottom so current from R=70ohm is 4.05A from bottom to top b) across R=287.2ohm=>287.2*.71=203.91V
