Question
hello, can you please explain theory to how to solve problem that has elastic collision a ball hits a stationary box and the box moves and the ball bounces. how can i find the distance that the box moved? i am not given time or acceleration, the only possible hint is to use velocity of whole system's center of mass, then velocity of ball's center of mass and subtract center of masses from each other. can you please tell me if that is correct logic and which formulas to use, or if not correct logic, how to work out? I am not given accelerations. thank u.Explanation / Answer
Use conservation of momentum, and conservation of total energy to find the velocity of the box after collision. accelaration of the block will be determined from the friction force and hence distance can be calculated easily. Hope u get it.
