Question
The energy released by nuclear bombs is measured in kiloton (kt) or megaton (Mt) units. One kiloton is a unit of energy released by 1000 tons of trinitrotoluene (TNT). One kiloton is 4.2×1012 joules. The yield of fission bombs is typically between 10 and 500 kilotons, the yield of fusion bombs is between 1 and 50 megatons. Calculate the length of a single line of large highway trucks carrying a 50.0 kt load. The capacitity of one truck is 29.0 t, the length of one truck is 16.0 m. The spacing between the trucks is 20.0 m.b.What is the length of a convoy carrying a 36.0 Mt load?
Explanation / Answer
load = 50kt = 50000 ton one truck carries 29 t no. of truck used = 50000/29 = 1724.14 number of truck have to be used. but no. has to be an integer hence 1725 truck must be used. length of one truck = 16 m total length of trucks = 16 * 1725 m =27600 m and spacing between truck = 20 m but when all trucks are palced in a line than only 1724 spaces will be formed we can imagine that spaces formed will be one less than tha number of trucks hence total spaces formed= 20 * 1724 m =34480 m total length of convey = 27600 + 34480m =62080 m hence length of truck convey will be 62080m B) if the load carried to be is 36Mt than no. of trucks be used is = 30000000/29 =1034482.76 trucks will be required whole number= 1034483 trucks required length of truck= 1034483 * 16 = 16551728 m space between trucks(one less than no. of trucks)= 1034482 * 20 =20689640 m total length of convey = 16551728 + 20689640 = 37241368 m
