Question
First of all, thank you so much for your help! I'm stuck on part (c) of this problem:
c) When hanging from that point [(0,0)], what angle would the long side of the blade make with the vertical?
- I have no idea how to figure this out. The book says that the answer is 54 degrees, if that is helpful! I also already found that the center of gravity is at (6,8.2). I'm assuming that when the blade is hanging, the center of gravity point will be at (0, -8.2)? That's as much as I can figure out though.
Explanation / Answer
The initial angle made by the line joiniing origin and centre of mass = arctan( 8.2/6) = 53.80 . therefore after the centre of mass re aligns to the final position , the line joiniing origin and centre of mass rotates by 90 + 53.8 deg, so does the long side . The initial angle of the long side with vertical = 90 , after it is , 90 + (90 + 53.8 ) = 53.8 deg in the third quadrant with the vertical .
