Question

Two boxes are connected to each other as shown. The system is released from rest and the 1.00-kg box falls through a distance of 1.00m. The coefficient of kinetic friction between box A and the surface of the table is 0.2. What is the kinetic energy of box B just before it reaches the floor?

I know the answer if the table is frictionless, I just don't know how to incorporate friction into the problem.

Picture is of 3.00-kg box A sitting on the table with a pulley on the end and 1.00-kg box B hanging over the edge.

Explanation / Answer

The total weight of the boxes if 4 kg..... The KE of box B is 1/4 the weight of box A. Therefore you would do 9.80/4= 2.45 J
