Explanation / Answer

This is a portion of a book chapter where students are shown how to represent their results graphically and also how to explain the findings of their results in a text. Since it is not very clear what the student is expecting from the expert, I'm trying to answer the questions asked in the text and hope this will solve your issue-

In the example of representation of data in Tables, you will find that the Table in example 2 better represents the results from the experiment. You can mention the following reasons for that-

1) In Example 2 any observor can figure out the objective of the experiment easily. Here the objective is to find the variability in cellular respiration of corn kernels in three varieties of seeds. Title of the table "cellular respiration activity in corn kernels of different viability" and it's legends are well written. This is not the case with the Table in Example 1.

2) You can immediately understand by looking at the Table in Example 2 about - the types (of seeds), variability (in cellular respiration) and experimental response (reduction of tetrazolium). These things cannot be easily figured out in the Table shown in Example 1.

Now about the figure, I'm here answering the questions asked.

1.The curve of the graph- shows the change or variability in the dependent variable (on Y axis, in your figure it is Absorbance) with respect to the change or variation in the independent variable (on X axis, in the figure it is wavelength).

2. The controls show the effect of experimental errors or the changes brought about by the variables which are not being considered in the experiment.

3. The replicates in an experiment show the repeatability of an experiment, if the variation in the values of replicates is small, the experiment is considered repeatable.
