Question

Chapter 21, Problem 33

A square coil of wire containing a single turn is placed in a uniform 0.29-T magnetic field, as the drawing shows. Each side has a length of 0.31 m, and the current in the coil is 14 A. Determine the magnitude of the magnetic force on (a) the top and (b) left sides

Chapter 21, Problem 33 A square coil of wire containing a single turn is placed in a uniform 0.29-T magnetic field, as the drawing shows. Each side has a length of 0.31 m, and the current in the coil is 14 A. Determine the magnitude of the magnetic force on (a) the top and (b) left sides

Explanation / Answer

we consider side 1 magnetic field yields no force F = 0 N on that since it is parallel to teh current on side 2 magnetic field is perpendicular to teh current it yields maximum force F = ILB     = 14A * 0.31m * 0.29T = 1.25N on side three manetic field field yields no force F = 0 on that side since it is parallel it is parall ot the current on side four magnetic field is perpendicular to teh current it yields maximum force   F = ILB     = 14A * 0.31m * 0.29T = 1.25N     = 14A * 0.31m * 0.29T = 1.25N
