Question
A gas initially at a temperature of 0 oC and a pressure of 148 kPa is compressed isothermally from 35 L to 16 L. What is the work required?Answer in kj (kilo joules) and upto 1 decimal place. Give the absolute value without plus or minus sign.
This is what I did:
W = P (Vf - Vi)
Pressure in atm is 1.46, and I didn't change L to m^3. Answer I got was -28.5J but in Kj that's like 0.0285 and he asked for the answer in one decimal, making it 0.0, so I guess my answer is wrong. Please mind the units that I need my answer in.
Explanation / Answer
A gas initially at a temperature of 0 oC and a pressure of 148 kPa is compressed isothermally from 35 L to 16 L. What is the work required?
Answer in kj (kilo joules) and upto 1 decimal place. Give the absolute value without plus or minus sign.
Here we have to take pressure as 148*10^3 Pa(As we got kilo pascal)
Volume as (35*10^-3) and (16*10^-3)cubic meter(we need to convert liter into into cubic meter )
So W=P*(Vf-Vi)=148*10^3*19*10*-3
=148*10^3*10^-3*19
=2812 Joules
=2.8 Kj
