lon tons /year) although most of the catch is used for fishmeal. However, production has varied greatly over the years with multiple crashes and recoveries 2. The Peruvian Anchovy /Anchoveta (Engraulis rigens) supports the largest fishery in the world (4.2-8.3 mill Given its life history traits and fisheries stats in the table provided below explain what might be driving these fluctuations (3 pts). a. Explanation / Answer

A) The fluctuation of Peruvian anchoveta production is mainly caused due to overfishing. As it shows on the graph the landings fall downwards after 1970 and it continues until on or about 1985 that means that 15 years is the time duration when the critical depensation happened. If the fluctuation is happened by climate change, then the species might become extinct but that doesn't happen which shows in the graph about the upwards movement of landings after 1990. So, that means overfishing is the main cause of the fluctuations of the landings of Peruvian anchoveta.

B) El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) event changes in sea-surface temperatures, changes in the vertical, thermal structure of the ocean (particularly in coastal regions), and altered coastal and upwelling currents. As Peruvian anchoveta are upwelling habitant, the cause of that the fishery of Peruvian anchoveta should be affected and the reproduction rate will move downwards. As per research, the temperature of the sea-surface temperature is increased by about 10 degrees and cause of that the Peruvian anchoveta fishery can be extinct in future or may change their habitat and move to the more cooler region.
