Enhanced EOC: Problem 4.14 7 of 10 Part A A supply plane needs to drop a package of food to scientists working on a glacier in Greenland. The plane fies 170 m above the glacier at a speed of 00 m/s How far short of the target should it drop the package? Express your answer using three significant figures with the appropriate units. Explanation / Answer

Height of plane = 170 m

Horizontal speed of plane = 100 m/sec

Time taken by package to reach the ground will be

h = Vyi*t + 0.5*g*t^2

Vyi = 0 m/sec

t = sqrt (2*h/g)

t = sqrt (2*170/9.81) = 5.89 sec

Now Range of projectile motion will be

R = Vx*t

R = 100*5.89 = 589 m
