Question

Find the currents flowing in the circuit in the figure below. Use the direction of the currents as shown in the figure. Explicitly show how you follow the steps in the Problem-Solving Strategies for Series and Parallel Resistors. (Hint: For resistors in series, you may want to add the resistances since they have a common current.) E, 24 V Ri 244 V 18? Re 0.50 ? 44 ? 0.20 ? 24-36 V 2 8.0 v i 0.05 ? h Submit Answer Incorrect. Explanation / Answer

Apply Kirchoff's junction law at the junction,

I1 + I2 = I3 ------(1)

Apply Kirchoff's loop law in upper loop,

24 - (5 + 0.1 + 18)*I1 + (0.5 + 44)*I2 - 44 = 0 ---(2)

Apply Kirchoff's loop law in lower loop,

44 - (0.5 + 44)*I2 - (0.2 + 0.05 + 84)*I3 - 36 + 8 = 0 ---(3)

on solving the above three equations we get
I1 = -0.277 A
I2 = 0.306 A
I3 = 0.0285 A
