What is the current through the 6 ? resistor?- A [1 point] [Circle the direction of the ( left / right ) [1/3 point ( left / right ) [13 poin ( left / right ) [13 poin 12 ?Explanation / Answer
Remember:
For series combination
Req = R1 + R2 + R3 +...............
for parallel combination
1/Req = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 + ............
for 2 resistors in parallel it will be
Req = R1*R2/(R1+R2)
Using this Information:
In dashed box, 2, 1 and R are in series, So
Rs1 = 2 + 1 + 2 = 5 ohm
Nw Rs1, 3, and 4 ohm arein parallel, So
1/Rp = 1/5 + 1/3 + 1/4 = 47/60
Rp = 1.28 ohm (Part A answer)
Now 5 ohm out of dashed box and Rp are in parallel, So
1/Req = 1/5 + 1/1.28
Req = 5*1.28/(5 + 1.28) = 1.02 ohm
Now using ohm's law:
V = i*R
ieq = V/Req = 6/1.02 = 5.88 Amp
i1 = ieq = 5.88 Amp (Part B Ans)
Now remember in resistors parallel combination voltage distribution in each part will be same and in series combination current distribution in each resistor will be same.
Voltage in 5 ohm = Voltage in dashed box = E = 6 V
i2 = V2/R2
V2 = Voltage in 5 ohm = 6 V
i2 = 6/5 = 1.2 Amp (Part C answer)
i3 = i1 - i2 = 5.88 - 1.2 = 4.68 Amp (Part D answer)
Power is given by:
P = V^2/Req = 6^2/1.02 = 35.29 W (Part E answer)
In 5-ohm power will be
P = V^2/R = 6^2/5 = 7.2 W
