254 sp17 exam1 solpdi B https://edugen.wileyplus.com Cutnell, Physics, 10e GENERAL PHYSICS AND 2 (PHYS 209/21- STANDARD VIEW : PRINTER VISO" BACK Chapter 07, Problem 25 By accident, a large plate is dropped and breaks into three pleces. The pieces fly apart parallel to the floor. As the plate falls, its momentum has component parallel to the floor. After the collision, the component of the total momentum parallel to the floor must remain zero, since component parallel to the floor, Using the data shown in the drawing find (a) the mass of plece 1 and (b) the mass of piece 2 only a vertical component, and no 179 ms 450 1.30 07 ms (a) Number (b) Number Click if you would like to Show Work for this question: Qeen Show.Werk Units Units edugen r asnmt17150168N10020 12:36 PMExplanation / Answer
Apply conservation of mometnum in x-direction
m2*v2*cos(45) - m1*v1*sin(25) = 0
m2*1.79*cos(45) - m1*3*sin(25) = 0
1.2657*m2 - 1.26785*m1 = 0 ---------(1)
Apply conservation of mometnum in y-direction
m1*v1*cos(25) + m2*v2*sin(45) - m3*v3 = 0
m1*3*cos(25) + m2*1.79*sin(45) - 1.3*3.07 = 0 ---(2)
on solving the above two equation we get
m1 = 1.003 kg
m2 = 1.001 kg
