In your initial phone conversation with Jay, he admits that his busy schedule has led him to eat solely fast food and canned or prepackaged products. He eats very few fruits and vegetables, does not have a sweet tooth, but does love salt and adds it to all his meals. He is frustrated by this recent diagnosis, and is unsure how changing his diet will help improve his condition.
Is it possible that Jay’s goiter was caused by his diet? If yes, an excess or deficiency of which mineral could have been the culprit?
