Chromosome number For each pair of statements (connected with .), select which is greater. If the statements are equal, then select both statements Which one in this pair is The number of The number of chromosomes in a cell during prophase greater? chromosomes in the same If they're equal, selectcell during metaphase both Which one in this pair is greater? The number of chromatids The number of chromatids in a cell during early interphase. -in the same cell during late interphase If they're equal, select both Which one in this pair is greater? chromosomes in a cell- The number of chromosomes in thi same The number of during ear ly interphase if they're equal, select cell during metapháse. both

Explanation / Answer

1) Equal number of chromosomes are present in cell during prophase and metaphase; number of chromatids is double the number of chromosomes and even that is equal in both prophase and metaphase in same cell.

2) The number of chromatids in the same cell during late interphase is greater that the number of chromatids in a cell during early interphase. During the S phase of interphase, the genetic material of a cell is duplicated. During early interphase, they have only one chromatid per chromosome, however during late interphase, after DNA replication, there are 2 chromatids per chromosome.

3) Equal number of chromosomes are present in the cell during early interphase and metaphase. Ploidy of a cell does not change during mitosis.
