Sara Jones is trying to change her eating habits because she is worried about developing any of the chronic diseases associated with a poor diet. She does not like to exercise but is willing to make changes to her diet. Her friend introduced her to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans but Sara has questions. More specifically she wants to know the importance of the fitness guidelines. Remember Sara hates to exercise. Explain to Sara the benefits of exercise as it relates lowering the risk for cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers. Also explain to Sara the general benefits of exercise.
Explanation / Answer
Since she hates excercise I would start by educating her about the myriad of options available. Excercise doesn't mean just going to the gym. I would present a number of options to her such as yoga, swimming, indoor climbing,boxing, zumba, aerobics, dance etc. If she enjoys it, then it would not seem like a chore she has to do and is more likely to stick to the routine.
Adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity and should perform muscle-strengthening exercises on 2 or more days each week according to American fitness guidelines. I would explain how excercise together with her dietary changes is going to go hand in hand to help he overcome her health issues.

Up to one-third of cancer-related deaths are due to obesity and a sedentary lifestyle. Protection against cancer happens through a variety of mechanisms someof which include weight reduction and improved immunity
Apart from all this, excercise releases endorphins which helps people feel happier and less stressed out. Excercise improves body stamina and strength, improves immunity and hence reduces the incidenes of common infections
