Question

What is the difference between a haploid cell and a diploid cell? What are the structural components of a chromosome What is the difference between karyokinesis and cytokinesis What are salient features of Prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, Anaphase, telophase What are the difference between Mitosis and meiosis What are the differences between Meiosis 1 and Meiosis Il division Fill in table with +ve or negative Sign(s): 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Chromosome Structure Chromosome movement Centrioles Spindle fibers Nucleolus Interphase Prophase Prometaphase Metaphase Anaphase telophase

Explanation / Answer

1. The haploid cell contains one set of chromosomes where as the diploid organism conains two set of chromosomes.

2. The structural componenets of the chromsomes is DNA and histone proteins.

3. In cell division, the nuclear division is called as karyokinesis where as the cytoplasmic division is called as cytokinesis.

4. In the prophase, the chromatin network condensed and forms a thick chromatids. In prometaphase the chromatids condensed utmost and seperated individual chromosomes, nuclear membrane disappears. During methapse all chromosomes come at metaphase plate. During anaphase either chromatids or chromosomes moves to the poles. During telophase the nuclear membrane formed again and makes daughter cells.

5. Mitosis is equivational divions- the chromosome number remains same.
Meiosis is a reductional division - the chromosome number reduced to half.
