One possible interpretation can be - extinction of some animals help as to conclude that those animals could not adapt to the changing environmental conditions in time and thus couldn't survive.

5. Law of superposition just tells us about the relative age of deposited layers not actual age just relative age. The layers on top are younger than layers beneath them.

Yes these two pieces are important because "how long it took to deposit them" can give us an idea about how long those organisms flourished on Earth.

How fossils were deposited is also an important question as it tells us about how organisms could have possibly died, eventually by aging or some catastrophic calamity causing death of more number of the organisms.

After determination of age of fossils we have been able to mark them that which came before and which after.
