Question
The terminals A and B in the figure below are connected to a 9.0 V battery, where R1 = 2.3 ohms and R2 = 2.3 ohms.http://www.webassign.net/walker/21-30alt.gif
(a) What is the equivalent (total) resistance presented by entire circuit? __ ohms
(b) Find the current flowing through each resistor.
2.3 ohms resistor (R1) = __ A
2.5 ohms resistor = __ A
6.3 ohms resistor = __ A
4.8 ohms resistor = __ A
2.3 ohms resistor (R2) = __ A
8.1 ohms resistor = __ A
(c) Is the potential difference across the 6.3 ohms resistor greater than, less than, or the same as the potential difference across the R1 = 2.3 ohms resistor?
(Make sure you understand conceptually.)
lesser, same, greater ?
Explanation / Answer
Rtot= .8928 ohms Well i dont feel like doing part b,i will go over how to do it.... I tot = 9 / .8928 = 10 amps then get the circuit to R1 and Req in parallel. Then use current division to find the current in R1. Then you will know that the current in Req is 10 - I in R1. Then expand Req out to 2 more resistors in parallel and find the current that way in the 2.5 ohm resistor.. then the remaining current will be in the rest of the condensed circuit... then keep doing this logic until you get the current for each one.
