Question

IP A parallel-plate capacitor filled with air has plates of area 6.9×10-3m^2 and a separation of 0.40mm

Calculate the magnitude of the charge on the plates if the separation is 0.81mm
Express your answer using two significant figures. Answer must be in nC.

Also I found the magnitude of the charge on each plate when the capacitor is connected to a 10-V battery which is Q=1.5nC and I also know that once the seperation between the plates is increased 1.5nC will decrease. Please I can't figure this out any sort of help!

Explanation / Answer

C1 = A/d = 152.697 nF = 0.153 nF

V = 10V

Q = CV = 1.53 nC

Now, Seperation is increased to 0.81mm

=> C2 = 0.0754 nF

=> Q = C2*V = 0.754 nC
