Question

Can I please get an explanation for why the following are either true or false? Thanks in advance!

11. I take equal numbers of liver cells and incubate them with radiolabeled Glucose either in buffer only, or buffer+Glucagon. I measure the level of radiolabeled pyruvate in the cells after 30 mins. Cells that are incubated with buffer Glucagon convert-5% of the Glucose to pyruvate. How much of the Glucose would have been converted to pyruvate in the cells incubated with buffer only? F ? A) 5%. Same numbers of cells used, and cells have the same rate of T T F F ? ? conversion B)-5%. Glycolysis would not be inhibited by Glucagon. C)

Explanation / Answer

Option b > 5% glycolysis would not be inhibited by glucagon -true

Note- the glycolysis is inhibited in presence of glucagon but when no glucagon is present the reaction will occur and pyruvate will be formed in more amount as compared to with glucagon thus it is more than 5% . It cannot be same as with glucagon so it is not approx 5 nor it can be zero as it is not neccesary at the experiment cell that glycolysis occur only when induced by insulin hormone as we can see approx 5% occur in with glucagon so that means it doesnot require other hormone to initiate it .
