Question

Using MATLAB, simulate motion of an object moving on a frictionless surface under crosswind. Then, plot the resulting motion path in x-y coordinates. Assume that mass of the object is 10 kg, initial position of the object is at the origin (0,0), and initial velocity is (0, 2m/s). For this problem, use a conventional x-y coordinates not SAE vehicle coordinates.

(1) Using a time vector from 0 to 6s with a time interval of 1ms, simulate the motion and plot the motion path in x-y coordinates. Assume that the crosswind applies a constant force of 1N to the object in the negative x-direction.

(2) Repeat (1) with negative force of 2N.

Explanation / Answer

t = 0:0.001:6; % A matrix for time points at 1ms
x = -0.5*0.1*t.^2; % A 1D matrix to store x-direction displacement
y = 2*t; % A 1D matrix to store y-direction displacement
plot(x,y); % Required plot
