The Engineering Design Project will focus on the all stages of the design process. You will work in groups of 2 or 3 to develop a product idea from the case study to the product concept stage.

Explanation / Answer

To design (and fabricate a prototype) a foldable temporary bridge to be used in the desert sand. Crossing two sand dunes or sand mountains or a valley in a desert consumes a lot of fuel and time. To reduce the this a foldable light weight and strong bridge is to be designed. The foldable structure prevents the bridge material from sandstorms and other attacks and also reduces the cost of constructing an actual bridge.

The foldable bridge is either (hydraulic piston operated). (The electricity to run is produced using a solar panel). The bridge is designed such that it can bear the load of (one or two cars at a time).(A scissor mechanism) is used to unfold the bridge structure. And hydraulic pistons are used to fix and stretch the bridge.
