Question

LAB REPORT QUESTIONS Each question needs to be answered in a separate paragraph in the results section of your report. 1. What was the percent uncertainty of the magnetic field sensor? For this experiment, why is percent uncertainty more useful than absolute uncertainty? 2. Based on the seven values of field you measured (at seven different currents) and including uncertainty, what was your computed value of the permeability constant uo? Does it agree with the theoretical value? What is the percent error between your value and the theoretical value? List some possible causes of error in your computed value. 3. What was the magnitude of the voltage you induced by manually moving the magnet through the coil? What was the expected voltage based on your use of Faraday's Law? Would you say the two values are in agreement? Why or why not?

Explanation / Answer

a) The percent uncertainityof the magnetic field sensor varies from 2 to 4 % ( from the experimental data range has been predicted). Percentage uncertainity is more useful than absolute uncertainity because it provides the real value variation with suitable margins so that the result value never goes out of range.

b) Based on seven values of field we measured, the permeability constant value comes out to be :- µ0 = 4 × 107 H. And ues it exactly matches with the theoretical value. Since these values are exactly matching, hence no percent error has been noticed.

c) The magnitude of the voltage we induced by manually moving the magnet through the coil = I * R

Let us assume that costant current of 1 A flows into the circuit

Hence the magnitude of the voltage we induced by manually moving the magnet through the coil = I * R = 1* 1*10^5

=10 ^5 Volts

The expected voltage based on Farday's law is exactly same.
