Question
please answer parts A and B.
A V= 110-V source is connected in series with an R = 1.3 k-Ohm resistor and an L = 34-H inductor and the current is allowed to reach maximum. At tune t = 0 a switch is thrown that disconnects the voltage source, but leaves the resistor and the inductor connected m then own circuit. V=110V R = 1.3 k & Omega L = 34H (a) How much tune, in milliseconds, is needed for the current in the circuit to drop to 8 % of its value at t = 0? (b) How much energy, m, does the circuit dissipate during that time?Explanation / Answer
Here ,
a) time constant , T = L/R
T = 34/1.3 ms
T = 26.2 ms
let the time taken is t
I = Io * e^(-t/T)
0.08 = e^(-t/26.2)
solving for t
t = 66.2 ms
the time taken is 66.2 ms
b)
for the energy in the circuit at that time
E = 0.50 * 34 * (110/(1.3 *10^-3) * 0.08)^2
E = 7.8 *10^-4 J = 0.78 mJ
the energy is 0.78 mJ
