Question
Direct sunlight of average intensity 200 W/m^2 is incident normally on a solar cell. The area of the cell is 0.1 m^2. What is the total incident energy in one day in kWh ____ and in MJ ____? How is this total energy altered if the sunlight falls at an angle of 30 degree to the normal to the surface of the cell? _____ A household uses 4,000 kWh of electricity in a year. Estimate what area of solar panels would be required to produce 1,000 kWh of electricity; the panels are 15% efficient. The insolation in the region is 800 kWh/m^2y. ________Explanation / Answer
here,
average intensity of light , I = 200 W/m^2
area , A = 0.1 m^2
the total energy incedent in one day , E = P * t = I * area * 24
E = 200 * 0.1 * 24 Wh
E = 0.48 KWh
and
E = 0.48 * 10^3 * 3600 J
E = 1.72 * 10^6 J= 1.72 MJ
when it is incedent on angle , theta = 30 degree
the total energy , E' = E * cos(30)
E' = 0.42 KWh
